Description from the seller
Napoleon III Mantel Clock - 19th Century.
French mantel clock from the Napoléon III period (circa 1860-1880), in gilded-regulate (regule) with rich Rocaille/Louis XV decoration.
The clock features a figurative scene with two 18th-century style characters framing the dial: to the left, a young woman in period dress; to the right, a gentleman in antique costume.
The décor is completed by an openwork Rocaille pediment, a curved base adorned with a central female mask, and animated feet, typical of Second Empire decorative production.
Dial: domed enamel, black stylized Arabic numerals, railway minute track, central floral engraving, steel hands, Louis XV style.
Note the presence of a flaw and an enamel loss around a winding hole, visible in the photos. An old defect, common on 19th‑century enamel dials.
French mechanical key-wound movement (key and balance included), 8-day duration, hour and half-hour strike on a bell.
Mantel clock with a complete, solid structure and well-assembled; the characters are intact, wear consistent with age on the relief areas (feet, edges, faces, folds of clothing). Wear and scratches from use; see photos as they are part of the description.
