Description from the seller
Louis XVI chest of drawers – late 18th century – probable Friulian origin
Elegant Louis XVI chest of drawers from the late eighteenth century, with a probable Friulian provenance. The piece is made of walnut, with fillets on the fronts of the drawers and on the sides, typical of northeast Italian production in the late eighteenth century.
The structure features five drawers with flush fronts: two small upper drawers and three full-width lower drawers. The escutcheons and locks are original, a detail that confirms the authenticity of the piece and its consistent front-maintenance.
Over time the chest has undergone some alterations:
– most probably originally it was a drop-front piece, then transformed;
– the feet are not contemporaneous with the structure and are a later addition.
Condition: the piece is overall in good order; there are cracks on the top surface, while the sides are well preserved. Normal signs of aging consistent with the period.
Dimensions:
– Length: 116 cm
– Depth: 61 cm
– Height: 91 cm
Possibility of personal transport within Northern Italy, by arrangement.
