GRAVES FOR ALESSI
American architect and designer Michael Graves (born 1934, Indianapolis, USA) developed this "Mantel Clock" in 1986 for the leading Italian design company Alessi. Launched in 1988, it was acclaimed for its postmodern interpretation of classic design, with four ebonized columns in a Tuscan style supporting a square pediment and the clock dial.
Graves commented on the project in 1988: 'When designing the desk clock, I was interested in exploring the established tradition of seeing artifacts as architectures in miniature. There are countless examples where furniture and objects sit in interiors as idealized items that draw their primary cues from proportioned architectural systems. I have always been fascinated by the ambiguity that arises between these hints of “interior buildings” and their external predecessors.' (Alessi: la fabbrica del design, Academic Press, 1998, p93)
It is shipped with especially careful packaging included in the shipping cost.
I would be happy to assist you after purchase with any information regarding the purchase of this wonderful and rare item!
