Exquisite corbeille armchair made circa 1850-1900 in France, Louis XVI style, in carved and gilded wood. Backrest with a sinuous movement following the corbeille model and finished with a floral finial of extraordinary quality. A piece with great aesthetic impact, suitable in any space and setting, even as a counterpoint in a contemporary decor. The corbeille sofa is a type of sofa with an oval base, whose backrest curves gently forward and downward to form the arms. The model emerged in France during the eighteenth century and remains an icon of elegance.
Seat, backrest, and armrests freshly upholstered in an original set of two fabrics from the prestigious and renowned brand Pierre Fray, a maison founded in 1935 in Paris by the designer of the same name. La Maison Pierre Frey now offers wallpaper and wall coverings, carpets and decorative items and furnishings, in addition to fabrics for interior decoration. The sides of the backrest are in a faux plain fabric of a pale, desaturated yellow and, as the protagonist, an exquisite raw-toned background fabric with floral embroidery. The color of the upholstery provides a modern yet elegant touch that balances the classical air of the structure.
Style and era of Napoleon III or the Second Empire.
Although it draws inspiration from past styles, beginning with Classical Antiquity, the Renaissance, even in the Louis XVI era, which was much loved by Eugenia, the most representative characteristic of the style is its sumptuousness and ostentation, always aiming to display wealth and opulence. They are pieces with great ornamentation.
It is not a style designed specifically for the Second Empire, but rather a revival of the different great French styles from the previous centuries, a kind of compilation of French decorative trends. Special reference is made to Louis XIV, Louis XV, Baroque and Rococo, and gradually Louis XVI, rooted in eclecticism. In short, the decorative styles that had positioned France at the forefront of interior design and furniture design in Europe, both for quality and for originality and beauty.
