Description from the seller
1 Rare and hard to get fossil cave bear foot bones.
The 4 bones are total approx. is 16 x 2 cm.
The cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) was a large prehistoric bear species that lived during the Ice Age and became extinct about 24,000 years ago.
Very large bear. Could weigh 400–700 kg or more.
Mostly in Europe, including regions that are now Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, and Eastern Europe.
Provenance: Found 1942 by my grand father in Switzerland. Drachenloch Höhle (Dragon’s Lair cave) Tamina valley, canton of St.Gallen.
Private individuals used to take bones, which was common practice back then. Today, that's forbidden.
PLEASE NOTE: The old typewritten paper tag is the only one I have from the family Swiss fossil collection. You will receive a COPY ONLY, not the original!
A very rare and sought after collectible.
