Description from the seller
Philips DCC‑951 – Digital Compact Cassette‑deck / recorder (18‑bit)
For sale: a Philips DCC-951 – a high-quality Digital Compact Cassette (DCC) player-recorder from Philips’ 900 series. This unit combines advanced digital playback and recording features with full compatibility for ordinary analog cassette tapes. It is an interesting piece of audio history and a valuable addition to any vintage hi-fi setup.
I tested the player for playback and recording, and it went smoothly with no problems. The sound is nice; I don’t hear any issues. Unfortunately, there is no remote control included.
Main features
Digital Compact Cassette (DCC) playback and recording, for digital sound with low noise and wide dynamic range.
In addition to DCC cassettes, it also plays ordinary analog cassettes, including Dolby B/C noise reduction.
18-bit Sigma-Delta A/D and Bitstream D/A converters with multiple sampling frequencies (48, 44.1 and 32 kHz) for high-quality digital processing.
Extensive input and output options: analog (line and mic), digital coaxial and optical – suitable for connection to hi-fi amplifiers and digital DACs.
Turbo mechanism for fast forward and reverse and efficient operation.
ESI bus connectivity for system integration with other Philips 900-series components.
Technical details
Tape speed: 4.8 cm/s; stereo playback.
Frequency range: approx. 20 Hz – 22 kHz with excellent signal-to-noise ratios; dynamic range approx. 95 dB.
Dimensions: ± 435 × 90 × 300 mm; weight approximately 4 kg.
Overview
The DCC‑951 is one of the most complete DCC decks Philips has produced, designed for both digital and analog cassette tasks within a single machine. The ability to record digitally directly from CD and the extensive remote control make it a versatile and complete device (not included).
Collection value
Although the DCC format did not have a long commercial life, it is an important milestone in the development of consumer digitalization preceding MiniDisc and MP3. This Philips deck is interesting for collectors of vintage audio, technicians who want to preserve the DCC system, and audio enthusiasts who are looking for a distinctive player/recorder with extensive functionality.
