Description from the seller

Bronze bust of Pope Sixtus V (Felice Peretti) – In the style of Taddeo Landini
Lotto presentation
Elegant bronze sculpture with a dark patina depicting Pope Sixtus V, one of the most influential popes of the Renaissance, known for his profound urban transformation of Rome.
The work faithfully follows the official iconography created by the Florentine sculptor Taddeo Landini. The pope is depicted with the typical thick beard and the austere and determined gaze that characterized him [2, 10]. He wears the ceremonial parchment (stole) richly decorated with figures of saints and relief floral motifs, details that show meticulous care in the casting and in the subsequent chasing.
Era: 20th century (based on the appearance of the patina and the base).
Material: Bronze with dark patina.
Details: Minute decorations on the sacred vestments, base integrated in bronze.
Condition: Good overall condition, with signs of time that confer character to the casting.
