Description from the seller
Crucifix – Polychrome and gilded wood, 18th century
Ancient carved wooden crucifix, painted and gilded, mounted on a turned pedestal. Some light wear and minor losses due to age.
The cross features trefoil-inspired, trilobed ends outlined by a broad gold border. The background is treated with olive-green polychromy, now patinated and partly worn, revealing the underlayer.
At the top, a painted titulus reads 'INRI'. On the side arms appear the letters 'NI' and 'A.', probably remnants of a more complete inscription.
Christ is painted directly on the wood, front and back (and not applied in relief), in an archaizing iconography.
Behind the cross, radiating, gilded, sculpted elements evoke a sense of glory.
At the base of the cross, beneath Christ, there is a painted skull protected by an old metal grid (twisted iron wire, probably an ancient addition).
Turned wooden baluster shaft, red and green polychromy, circular moulded base.
Homogeneous assembly, not restored, lacks radius, proper stability.
Photos are an integral part of the object's description and complement its presentation. They allow you to assess its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before making any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding!
