Ladies' gold-filled necklace (Doublé) in Art Nouveau/Jugendstil, dating to ca. 1905–1915, from Speidel in Pforzheim, Germany, with a length of 42.5 cm and a weight of 3.37 g.
Description from the seller
Beautiful gold-filled necklace (Doublé) from the famous jewelry atelier Speidel in Pforzheim, Germany.
The necklace features a centerpiece set with two cut 'Gablonz' pink glass stones and shiny gold-colored fancy links, attached to a beautiful (Vermeil) chain.
Nice craftsmanship by one of their creative goldsmiths, made ca. 1905-15, in the Pforzheim region, Germany.
Necklace length: 43 cm long.
Centerpiece dimensions: 6.5 cm W x 1.5 cm L.
Weight: 3.37 grams.
Hallmark on the last link before the clasp: Doublé and Speidel mark.
The Speidel workshop was founded in 1868.
In 1895 he handed the company over to his sons Friedrich Jr. and Eugen, who in 1896 built a large new factory in Pforzheim.
Their atelier, under the direction of their mother, "Frau Speidel," was considered in the 1920s to be the largest jewelry factory in Pforzheim.
From 1890 they specialized in a new method for making jewelry with rolled or stamped gold (Doublé) and this helped establish their name internationally.
On a double-pressed metal plate (Tombak) a thin layer of silver was first poured, then two thin layers of gold were rolled and stamped on, and the plates were then transported to the ateliers for making and manufacturing jewelry, which were carefully polished with a guarantee of maintaining a lifelong gold shine, as evidenced by this necklace!
