Description from the seller
Ceiling lamp, golden bronze and carved and frosted crystal, Art Nouveau, 1930s - France
Ceiling lamp / Chandelier
Materials: Golden bronze and carved and frosted crystal
Style: Art Nouveau
Period: 1930s
Country of origin: France
Good condition for its age and use
Total dimensions: 100 x 60 x 60 cm.
Spectacular French Art Nouveau ceiling lamp or chandelier, with a structure in golden bronze or ormolu and a frosted, carved crystal dome. The lamp begins with a small ceiling panel in golden bronze decorated with palm motif details. From this panel extend five crests of golden bronze, each opening toward one of the five lights supported by a large circular bronze body adorned with medallions. Five arms extend from this base, surrounding the main body.
This luxurious circular body is adorned with stylized cherubs embracing abundance cups among scrolls and rosettes, and is surrounded by an elegant frieze of grape leaves. The centerpiece is the beautiful carved diamond-cut crystal shade or dome, which houses three other lights inside. The frosting technique is the process by which the crystal undergoes a chemical or abrasive treatment to obtain a matte surface, reducing transparency and creating a soft, satin texture.
Art Nouveau was an artistic movement that emerged in the late 19th century, seeking to integrate art into everyday life and breaking away from historical styles. It is characterized by sinuous lines, nature-inspired forms such as flowers, stems, or insects, and an organic design that conveys fluidity and elegance. Its development was international, with variants such as German Jugendstil or Catalan Modernisme, though its origins are in Belgium.
In the decorative arts, Art Nouveau achieved one of its richest expressions: furniture, lamps, textiles, ceramics, and stained glass were conceived as artistic pieces. Craftsmen and artists such as Gallé, Tiffany, or Gaudí gave shape to functional objects that were also works of art, using innovative materials and traditional techniques. This approach aimed to beautify the domestic environment without sacrificing functionality.
The result is a highly decorative lamp of extraordinary quality, with a unique and sophisticated design.
Shipping of the product will be paid by the buyer according to the dimensions, weight, and destination.
