Standing in a heavy stance on the moon globe with the serpent, his gaze is forward. His cloak swirls around his body. Round-carved from limewood. Polychrome, original pedestal, limewood.
A very impressive piece made of polychrome limewood
dating - first half of the 19th century, around 1820/1850
Mary, dressed in a pink gown and with a blue mantle draped over her shoulder, stands on a blue globe on which a snake trampled by Mary coils.
Immaculata (Latin: Immaculate) - an image of the Virgin Mary without a child, standing on a globe entwined with a snake; an image developed in the 17th century and especially characteristic of the Baroque and Rococo period.
Height 47.5 x 14 x 15 cm.
