Authentic hand-knotted Ziegler Farahan rug from Pakistan, circa 1950–1960, measuring 245 × 169 cm, wool on cotton, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
We present an authentic Ziegler Farahan rug, hand-knotted in Pakistan around the mid-20th century (c. 1950–1960), of superior quality and exceptionally dense construction.
This piece stands out for its very compact and taut structure, with high knot density and a strong cotton foundation, features typical of high-end traditional Ziegler pieces. For its size, the rug is notably heavy, evidencing the large amount of wool used and the firmness of the weave, traits associated with classic Ziegler productions and not with lighter modern versions.
The Farahan design features an elegant red field with floral motifs and palmettes inspired by Persian design, surrounded by a wide ivory border richly decorated. The wool shows good natural sheen and a medium-height, uniform, compact pile, providing a firm and durable surface.
The fringes are original continuations of the warp (not added or trimmed), a sign of traditional manufacture.
Condition: very good.
Shows slight wear on the edges consistent with age and use, with no breaks or structural damage. The rug is clean and solid; a light professional cleaning could further enhance the brightness of the colors. No stains.
