Desk ensemble dating from 1850–1900, made of technical zinc with a dark wood base, measuring 18 cm high and 20 cm wide, originating from France and in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
The desk accessory presents a balanced and elegant composition, typical of nineteenth-century desk objects that combined practicality with a pronounced decorative sensibility. The base, made of dark polished wood, provides solidity and a warm contrast to the metal. Its circular, slightly raised form gives the ensemble a stable, well-defined presence on the surface of the desk.
In the center stands the figure of a lady, modeled in technical zinc, a material widely used in the late nineteenth century for sculptures and ornaments due to its ability to capture fine details and its more affordable cost compared to bronze. The figure, with its headdress and delicate features, conveys serenity and a romantic air characteristic of nineteenth-century aesthetics. The dark, softly satin-finished metal enhances the volumes and gives depth to the expression and modeling.
In front of the figure sits the glass inkwell, clear and with clean lines, crowned by a metal cap that harmonizes with the rest of the piece. On both sides, two decorative metal elements—in the shape of stylized feathers or flame-like vegetal motifs—frame the inkwell and complete the composition with an ornamental touch typical of the era.
The ensemble functions as a small sculptural tableau that, in addition to its practical purpose, served to beautify the desk and reflect the refined taste of its owner. It is a piece that combines craftsmanship, symbolism and utility, preserving the charm of nineteenth-century writing objects.
Certified shipping and careful packing.
