Description from the seller
Reliquary – Ex Velo S. Nicola – textile reliquary, seal and threads intact – 19th century - Italy
Authentic oval metal reliquary (copper alloy), containing a textile fragment presented on a moiré background,
identified by a handwritten label on paper reading “Ex Velo” and “S. Nicola.” Simple presentation, without ornamentation of paperolles, typical of secondary relics distributed by congregations in the 19th century.
On the reverse, the reliquary is sealed with two red cords and a red wax seal bearing ecclesiastical heraldry (unassigned, partially legible). The seal is unbroken, the original cords present.
The textile appears to be a fragment of fabric (probably linen), not bone, corresponding to a contact relic.
Handwritten designation: Ex Velo S. Nicola – probable interpretation: fragment related to Saint Nicholas (bishop of Myra / Bari)
Condition: visible wear to the textile backing, slightly opaque vitrification, metal oxidation, small surface losses on the seal. Overall coherent and antique.
Photos are an integral part of the object's description and complement its presentation. They allow you to assess its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before making any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding!
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
