Description from the seller
vintage solid wood nutcracker.
This is a piece of decorative craftsmanship, characterized by:
Screw-driven structure: The central mechanism uses a large wooden screw to apply pressure and crack the shells of nuts.
Painted decorations: It is adorned with hand-painted floral motifs, especially roses, a style that recalls the rosemaling tradition or European folk art.
Dimensions: Similar specimens have approximate dimensions of about 50×30 cm.
Rustic details: The base and the uprights feature classic carvings and decorative metal studs along the lower edge.
Decorative Style: The hand-painted floral decorations suggest a production linked to traditions of folk art, such as rosemaling or rustic decorations typical of the Alpine regions and Central Europe.
Production Period
Invention of the Mechanism: The screw-type nutcracker first appeared around the 17th century.
Diffusion: Although screw-type models have been produced for centuries, the piece in the image shows a decorative style and workmanship that point to a vintage or antique production, probably from the late 19th century or the first half of the 20th century.
