Description from the seller
This statue is a classic example of artistic ceramic for interior decoration, Italian-made in the Bassano style or of the famous ones dating back to the mid-20th century (the 1960s–1970s).
Here is a detailed description divided into key points:
1. Subject and Pose
The sculpture depicts a leopard seated on its hind legs. The animal is portrayed in an aggressive or warning stance: its mouth is open in a roar, showing its teeth, pronounced canines and its tongue. The gaze is directed slightly upward, giving it a proud and dynamic presence.
2. Colors and Decoration
The piece stands out for an unusual and stylized coloration:
Color base: The body is not in the classic yellow-gold, but shows a shade that shifts from cream white to pink/purple (particularly visible on the muzzle, the chest, and along the back).
Spotted pattern: The spots are a deep black, distributed irregularly but harmoniously. On the face they are small dots, while on the body they become larger and oval, mimicking the natural pattern of the feline.
Eyes: A striking detail is the color of the eyes, a vivid acid-yellowish green, which contrasts with the pinkish tones of the muzzle.
3. Materials and Finish
Material: Glazed ceramic
Finish: The surface is characterized by a highly reflective glossy glaze, which highlights the sculpture's curves and gives it a luxurious and "pop" appearance.
4. Style and Placement
These kinds of giant sculptures (often called "Hollywood Regency" or "Mid-Century Modern") were iconic pieces for the entrances of mansions or elegant living rooms between the 1960s and the 1980s. Today they are highly sought-after collectible items for maximalist or vintage interior decor.
