Daniil Gounaridis’s first‑edition softback exhibition catalogue, γουναρίδης, η πόλις 73 / the city 73, published in 1973 by Ora Art Center, is a 20‑page Greek and multilingual (Greek/German/English) work on art and illustration that includes the original exhibition price list.
Description from the seller
Highly collectible original exhibition catalogue published on the occasion of the 1973 Athens exhibition:
“γουναρίδης, η πόλις 73 / gounaridis, the city 73”
Art Center Ora (Ώρα)
2 – 21 November 1973
Issued by Ora Art Center, this important early catalogue documents The City (η πόλις), one of the most significant thematic bodies of work by Daniil Gounaridis.
The lot also includes the original exhibition price list (28.5 cm × 21 cm), a scarce and desirable addition that enhances its archival and market value.
Published in Greek, German, and English, this first edition provides essential documentation of Gounaridis’ exploration of the modern urban landscape. In The City, the social and existential dimension of his work comes powerfully to the fore. The suffocating repetition of geometric building volumes, the precision of description, the dominance of cold grey tonalities, and the absence of the human figure create images of strong metaphysical charge.
Themes of ecological imbalance, flattening uniformity, alienation, and the inhuman character of the contemporary metropolis form central axes of his artistic language.
