Description from the seller

Terracotta bust, Mami Wata, Ewe culture, Togo. Height 25 cm

Intriguing fragment of an ancient terracotta statue linked to the worship of Mami Wata, the water goddess. She is primarily consulted to obtain wealth, prosperity, and fertility. People offer her perfume, soap, cream, chalk, kaolin, cigarettes...
The figure is touching. It seems astonished. There is something naïve and dreamlike about this work. It is covered with kaolin powder. It’s a fragment of a statue. The whole thing is solid. Custom-made pedestal. Sold as is; the photos are part of the description. A beautiful, ancient and authentic Voodoo artwork. Circa 1960.
