Description from the seller
Gianni Berengo Gardin
Fêtes
Rare catalog of the exhibition organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris from November 6 to December 6, 2018.
As part of the PhotoSaintGermain cycle, the Italian Cultural Institute presents the extraordinary photographs by Gianni Berengo Gardin, one of the great masters of contemporary Italian photography.
Born in 1930 and a lucid witness to the second half of the 20th century, Gianni Berengo Gardin traveled across Italy gathering the traces of the changes that swept through it. The black-and-white images, shot by the master between 1957 and 2009 and selected from his rich photographic archive, tell of an Italy made of celebrations, dances, costumes, and folk traditions. Berengo Gardin has captured the essence of the festivity: a fascinating world populated by children, Gypsies, elderly or young ladies, dancers of all ages; an Italy “in celebration,” artfully captured in its essential moment by his anthropological yet poetic gaze. In collaboration with Contrasto, Pistoia – Dialogues on Man and the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia.
