Description from the seller
Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.
A substantial cast Celtic bronze neck or arm ring of circular form, fashioned from a solid rod and gently tapering towards the terminals. The body is decorated along part of its circumference with closely spaced transverse ribbing, creating a textured band that contrasts with the smoother opposing section. The terminals are drawn out and finished in small spirals.
The surface bears an attractive dark green patina with lighter areas of wear and minor encrustation consistent with age and use. Subtle hammering marks and irregularities attest to hand-finishing.
Torques of this type were worn as symbols of status and identity, widely associated with Iron Age Celtic culture and later adopted in various forms throughout the Roman period.
Outside diameter: ± 146,5 mm
Condition: good and solid condition, restored.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
