Description from the seller
From my collection
Large Stilbite on Quartz
A quartz druze with a large hedgehog of stilbite
Origin is Jalgaon, India
Weight approx. 1.96 kg
Size approx. 14.0 x 15.0 x 12.5 cm
The city of Jalgaon lies about 450 km northeast of Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra. The quarry complex is located 10 km west of the city and 3 km south of Padi, near Jalgaon-Sawda. The quarries lie on both sides of the road; to the east have yielded wonderful mineral specimens, especially dark-green apophyllite after 1994, but they are no longer in operation. Five openings on the western side are exposed. The complex of these fractures covers an area of 800 by 800 m. Not only does quarrying for building material play a role here, but also the sale of high-value minerals.
The minerals from Jalgaon sit in the druses directly on the wall rock; weathered specimens have not been found so far. To retrieve beautiful crystals with matrix, great delicacy is required. Most druses are lined with chalcedony that has grown partly stalactitically. On this sit apophyllite, quartz, heulandite, and stilbite. Even though the druses lie very close to each other, one finds very different parageneses.
