Description from the seller
Splendid matrimonially sized quilt in pure cotton damask with artisanal loom-piquet work from the first half of the 1900s, entirely woven with damask embroidery and ton-sur-ton circles. A notable feature is the weaving technique that sets it apart from usual prints or embroidered pieces with raised work, as the designs were woven inside. The effect is stunning. There are squares with a central flower and surrounding hieroglyphs.
The piquet weave is a process that creates fabrics with raised designs, obtained through a special weaving that uses a double warp or elevated threads. The result is a raised structure through a two-threads weave that gives thickness and a different look to the fabric. A quilt that is all weaving.
To enrich it, a straight high band 10 cm wide.
The quilt without fringe measures 226 cm in width and 213 cm in length. Add 10 cm of straight fringe.
It is all one piece both in the central and side parts. Along the entire perimeter, at 10 cm high, there are diamonds.
In the center there is an oval seam sewn inside which, given the white color and the weaving, is hardly visible. On one side there is also a missing 27 cm of fringe at the terminal part and in some areas the quilt shows signs of years and use.
The fringe can be easily replaced by buying a trim or a straight fringe.
Carefully looking at the photos you can see the mending and the absence of fringe.
It has always been used a lot due to its beauty, with the utmost care, and it shows no stains.
They are details that, when laid on a bed, make the embroidery and weaving stand out. It shows the signs of time and use. The photos are more explicit than words. It is part of my family’s linen.
I have used it a lot myself specifically for the weaving.
For shipping I use private couriers and not the postal service because it arrives faster and communication is clearer.
Costs vary depending on whether it is Europe, band 1 or 2 such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern countries, or band 3 such as Norway, Malta, Cyprus, and the rest of the world.
Customs duties will be the buyer’s responsibility.
