Makkum’s ceramic horse - Royal Tichelaar Makkum
Model
291 - approx. 1960-1970.
Beautifully hand-painted pottery horse from the workshops of Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum (Friesland, Netherlands).
The image shows a gracefully standing horse with raised front leg, placed on a rectangular base with a green speckled field and floral border decoration. The horse is richly adorned with floral motifs and a colorful saddle in yellow, blue, red and green - typical colors of traditional Frisian majolica.
On the underside with the well-known Tichelaar-Makkum stamp with crown and model number 291 as well as a handwritten artist’s signature.
This type of stamp was used in the period approximately 1950-1970.
