Description from the seller

Terracotta bas-relief – Face of Christ – Late 19th / Early 20th century

Important devotional bas-relief depicting the Face of Christ with a crown of thorns, made in terracotta and mounted on a square wooden panel of contemporary date.

The face, of intense expressiveness, features soft plastic modeling and precise details in the rendering of the beard, hair and the radiating halo behind. The workmanship highlights manual craftsmanship rather than serial industrial production.

The solid wood support presents a circular recess on the back with fastening by antique metal nails and the original upper ring for suspension.
