French table clock dating to c. 1920–1935, made of wood and zinc alloy with a mechanical multi‑day movement, date display, and half‑hour striking on three gongs, in good used condition with winding key, 32×35×15 cm and 3 kg.
Description from the seller
An original and patented unique French savings clock from the period 1920-1935 and in good condition.
La Pendule Épargne (a savings clock) served as a form of forced savings and was popular with insurance companies.
Customers borrowed the clock and had to drop in a coin daily or weekly to keep the clock ticking, which served as the premium payment.
As stated on the brass plate, the clock comes from 16 Rue d'Athènes in Paris.
The text "Breveté S.G.D.G" indicates that it is a patented design.
There is also a lacquer seal on the back to prevent people from removing the coins.
The clock case is in original condition and is gleamingly lacquered.
The numerals and hands are original and appear to be zinc alloy and are nearly mint condition.
The savings mechanism is missing from the clock, but otherwise it is in truly wonderful original running condition and works fine without the savings mechanism.
The movement is original in this clock and the escapement works excellently and is original. The clock runs perfectly on time and even the date display works well when properly regulated. The clock also has a beautiful three-tone chime.
This is certainly a collector's item, one you will hardly come across in working condition, and thus a real asset for clock lovers and collectors and an eye-catcher in any type of interior.
Nevertheless I am offering the pendule without a minimum reserve price, so everyone has a chance to own this patented and well-working French savings clock.
The savings clock will be shipped including a key and packed with extra care to European countries only.
