Godzilla (ゴジラ ), released in Spain as Japan Under the Terror of the Monster, is a 1954 Japanese science fiction horror film directed by Ishiro Honda, with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya.

Produced and distributed by Toho Company Ltd., it was the first of many kaijū films to be produced in Japan, many of which feature Godzilla as the protagonist. It stars Akira Takarada, Momoko Kōchi, Akihiko Hirata, and Takashi Shimura, with Haruo Nakajima and Katsumi Tezuka as Godzilla. In the film, Japanese authorities are confronted with the sudden appearance of a giant monster, whose attacks spark fears of a nuclear holocaust in postwar Japan.

Godzilla went into production after a co-production between Japan and Indonesia fell through.

Tsuburaya originally proposed a giant octopus before the filmmakers settled on a dinosaur-inspired creature. Godzilla pioneered a form of special effects called suitmation, in which a stuntman in a suit interacts with miniature sets. Principal photography lasted fifty-one days, and special effects photography lasted seventy-one days.

Godzilla premiered in Nagoya on October 27, 1954, and received a nationwide release in Japan on November 3; it received mixed reviews but was a box office success and won the Japanese Film Association Award for Best Special Effects.
