Art Deco decorative oval tray by Villeroy & Boch (Mettlach), made in Mettlach, Germany, with a ceramic plate mounted in a silvered metal frame, measuring 55 cm wide (45 cm excluding handles), 33.5 cm deep, 4.5 cm high, and weighing 1.8 kg, in good vintage condition with light signs of age and minor silvering wear.
Description from the seller
Decorative oval tray from Villeroy & Boch, manufactured in the factory at Mettlach (Germany).
On the underside is the characteristic stamp with the Abbey of Mettlach (the famous “Old Tower”) in a circular seal with towers and wavy lines. This mark variant was used from the late 19th century until the 1930s.
The dish is executed in a typical Art Deco style with geometric decoration in soft brown and green tones. The ceramic platter is mounted in a silver-plated metal frame with an openwork edge, resting on four graceful legs and featuring elegant handles.
The marking:
1250 = model / form number
R = production series or decor code
An impressive and unusually large size, suitable as a serving dish or as a stylish centerpiece.
Condition:
Good vintage condition.
Light signs of use appropriate to age
Some wear to the silvering
Ceramic in good condition with no visible cracks.
