Description from the seller
The subject of the auction is a classic, decorative trophy with a lid, made in the renowned Sheffield coining/engraving center in England. The cup features a traditional form with vertical fluting (grooving) of the body and an impressive figurine crowning the lid.
Item details:
Material: E.P.N.S. (Electro Plated Nickel Silver) – brass high-nickel alloy silver-plated galvanically.
Origin: Sheffield, United Kingdom (signature on the bottom).
Construction: Double-handled trophy on a high foot, comes with a matching lid.
Decoration: The body of the trophy and the lid have decorative embossing; handles with an ornate, curled profile. The lid is crowned by a cast figurine in a classical outfit.
Condition and flaws:
The item bears natural signs of use and the passage of time, which give it an authentic antique character. Please review the following notes:
Patina and discoloration: The surface shows natural patina and darker spots/soiling (may require professional cleaning if a high gloss is desired).
Scratches: The surface has numerous micro-scratches resulting from cleaning and use.
Figure condition: The figurine on the top remains intact, but shows visible casting irregularities and wear to facial and clothing details.
Base: The base shows traces of tarnish and dirt as well as a slight unevenness.
Signature on the bottom: "E.P.N.S. WITH HARDENED METAL FITTINGS SHEFFIELD"
Why it’s worth it?
The trophy presents itself with an extremely dignified appearance and will be an excellent ornament for a study or living room, or a valuable addition to a Sheffield plated-ware collection. Despite minor imperfections, the construction is stable and the form is very impressive.
