Description from the seller
Art Deco Coffee and Tea Set - J.A. Östling & Co.
This silver-plated coffee and tea set was produced in the early 1900s by J.A. Östling & Co in Västerås, Sweden.
The set consists of a tall pot, a sugar bowl, and a creamer, all in an Art Deco design.
The pot is stamped on the base with "J.A. Östling & Co Vesterås."
The design has smooth, rounded shapes and upturned handles that give the set a beautiful architectural look.
Both the sugar bowl and the creamer are finished with a gold-washed interior.
J.A. Östling & Co was most active from the late 1800s through the first few decades of the 1900s. Their work from the 1920s features the transition from Art Nouveau (Jugend) to the cleaner, more geometric Art Deco style seen in the set.
They specialized in high-quality silver-plated and nickel-silver items.
The use of the spelling "Vesterås" (with a 'V' and 'e') on the stamp is typical for the period before and during the early 1900s, as the spelling of the city is now standardized to "Västerås."
