AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

UMFELD KÖLNER WERKSCHULEN | Expressionist Wooden Box (1925/30)

A beautiful original from the interwar period, hand-painted unique piece, in the Cologne area, circa 1920s.
Decorative octagonal wooden box with expressive, expressionist-looking painting in warm yellow, ocher, red, and black tones. The geometric ornamental decoration is a prime example of the design language of the 1920s, as taught at the Bauhaus. It gives the object a strong graphic presence. The box sits on six small spherical feet, the lid is precisely fitted. Interior natural wood, exterior color-finished. Overall a meticulous handmade execution with visible charm and character.

Condition:
Good age-related condition with light signs of use, minor wear on edges and surface that emphasize authenticity and patina (see photos).

Details:

Material: wood, hand-painted

Shape: hexagonal

Style: expressionist / close to Art Deco

Time period: early 20th century

Use: jewelry box, storage, decorative object

An attractive collectible for lovers of expressionist art, Bauhaus-adjacent design, or extraordinary handicraft objects – also suitable as a stylish accent in interior spaces.

Length: 12 cm
Width: 9 cm
Height: 7 cm

For the design, principles of the Bauhaus were consulted: clarity of form, functionality, serial thinking, and a conscious emphasis on material and surface.

The set impresses with its completeness and timelessly modern design – an object that fits both a historic Bauhaus interior and a contemporary design collection. KERIT objects are sought after today by Bakelite and design collectors; they are among others in the collection of the German Plastic Museum.
