Antique Edwardian walking cane from the United Kingdom, c.1900, with a sterling silver (.925) knob handle on a straight hardwood shaft, in good condition with wear to the handle and a later ferrule.
Description from the seller
Gentleman’s walking cane fitted with a sterling silver knob handle, mounted on a straight hardwood shaft. The handle is stamped “STERLING SILVER”, a marking commonly used in the United States from the late 19th to early 20th century, suggesting manufacture for the American market.
The handle has a plain, functional form with a softly domed top and minimal decoration, consistent with late Victorian and early Edwardian taste. The silver shows natural wear and patina associated with age and handling. The wooden shaft displays an even tone and visible grain, with signs of use consistent with its age.
The cane is finished with a black ferrule, likely a later replacement, serving a protective function. Overall, the object presents as a well-preserved example of a late 19th / early 20th century gentleman’s cane, valued for its simplicity of form and quality of materials rather than ornament.
Good condition, consistent with age. The sterling silver handle shows surface wear, light scratches and small marks. The shaft is straight and stable, with minor age-related wear. No cracks or structural damage observed. Ferrule is later.
