An antique walking cane from the United Kingdom dating to 1900–1910, with a hand‑carved wooden shaft in a Black Forest‑influenced style, an original yellow metal collar showing wear, a right‑angled ergonomic handle, a robust tapered shaft, and good antique condition with signs of aging and no ferrule.
Description from the seller
A highly characterful antique walking cane distinguished by its boldly hand-carved shaft, featuring a dense, rhythmic, scale-like pattern executed entirely by hand. The depth and consistency of the carving reflect confident craftsmanship and place this piece firmly within the realm of collectible folk or Black Forest–influenced walking sticks.
The cane is fitted with an original yellow metal collar, showing clear and honest wear including surface abrasion, small dents, oxidation and areas of thinning consistent with long-term use. No hallmarks are present. The worn surface and warm tone of the collar contribute to the authenticity and period character of the piece.
The right-angled handle is well proportioned and ergonomically shaped, with natural patina from handling over time. The shaft remains robust, solid and well balanced, tapering naturally towards the tip. The ferrule is no longer present, with the lower end showing wear consistent with age and use.
Overall, this is a strong and visually striking example of a late 19th to early 20th century hand-carved walking cane, valued for its expressive carving, original components and undisturbed patina.
Good antique condition. General surface wear throughout, including a clearly worn original yellow metal collar. Ferrule no longer present. Small losses and abrasions consistent with age and use. No structural damage observed.
