Description from the seller

Monumental Neo-Renaissance Wall Console / Fireplace Mantel – Carved Oak – Cherub Heads – ca. 1880–1900

Description
A very imposing and richly carved wall console / mantelpiece in solid oak, executed in Neo-Renaissance style, dating from circa 1880–1900.

This architectural element is exceptional for its size and detailing. The console features deeply incised floral ornamentation, scrollwork, foliate motifs, and multiple carved cherub heads (putti) incorporated into the consoles.

The underside is finished with a profiled edge with rhythmic openings, giving the whole piece a powerful, almost ecclesiastical appearance.

The decoration shows clear influences from 16th-century Renaissance motifs, typical of the revival in the late 19th century. The rendering of the faces, the foliate work and the profiling indicate artisanal hand craftsmanship.

Features:
Material: solid oak
Style: Neo-Renaissance
Period: ca. 1880–1900

Deeply hand-carved ornamentation
Cherub heads (putti) integrated into the consoles
Original patina
Very decorative and architectural character

Condition:
In good condition given its age. Normal signs of use and slight hairline cracks appropriate for solid oak of this period. No recent restorations visible. Structure solid.
The top has been later finished with a thin board to make it usable for multiple purposes.

Dimensions: 230 cm x 40 cm x ca. 15 cm.

Given the size, pickup preferred. Shipping costs are the buyer’s responsibility.
