Sculpture, Ours marchant - 24 cm - Wood

Magnificent wooden animal sculpture, finely carved, depicting a brown bear walking on a rocky pedestal. This work is characteristic of the so-called “Black Forest” style, whose historic production center is located in Brienz, Switzerland.

Technical details: The fur is rendered with remarkable realism thanks to a multitude of fine incisions. The bear has glass ball eyes (a quality mark often sought by collectors) and a slightly open mouth revealing the teeth.

Functionality: The carved base incorporates a circular cavity to insert a clock or other.

Style & Era: Alpine folk art work, probably from the first half of the 20th century (circa 1920-1950).

Condition: Very good overall appearance. The patina is deep and well preserved. Slight wear with time.
