Philips BX660U radio set from 1946, tested and functional, in very good physical condition, weighing 12 kg with dimensions 360 × 580 × 260 mm.
Description from the seller
A very well-known, large Philips (then-current) world radio that was electronically beyond repair given the complexity of the circuitry and corroded wiring. Almost three-quarters of the internal part had to be demolished and rebuilt for any potential repair, resulting in an AM set that today has little to offer. This device was built in an incomprehensibly intricate and complex way (!).
Cabinet: black lacquer renewed and the wood-grain section refreshed and brought to a gloss (small signs of aging/use).
Bakelite parts: thoroughly cleaned and protected with clear high-gloss varnish.
Speaker grille repainted.
Apart from the transformers, the tubes, and the speaker, all other components are new.
Converted to a 5-watt tube amplifier of own design with separate high/low controls and driven by either of the following:
- Solid-state tuner: very good reception on FM (87-108MHz) with a small whip antenna and moderate to good reception on medium wave with built-in ferrite antenna;
- Bluetooth receiver (not hi-fi);
- External display with banana plugs (470KOhm);
- External speaker with jack 3.15mm (47KOhm);
Output for external speaker with banana plugs (5-8 Ohm).
Scale illumination with LED-E10-6VAC/DC
The large high-efficiency wideband speaker, relatively powerful output tube, and separate high/low controls contribute to a warm and intense sound.
Tubes: AZ1-EBL21-ECH21-ECH21-EF22 (tested +90%) – EM34 (“magic eye”, tested 90% and connected as VU meter)
H360(440 with vertical scale)*B580*D260mm – 11.3KG
