Description from the seller

Monumental Historicism Tazza – Helios, Zodiac Signs – 19th Century
Large decorative tazza / centerpiece bowl of Historicism, crafted in the second half of the 19th century, in an antiquated/antique-inspired style.

In the central medallion the sun god Helios is depicted, upon a chariot drawn by horses. The portrayal is surrounded by a running zodiac frieze with the twelve zodiac signs, complemented by griffins, winged beings, and ornately designed tendrils. This iconographic combination symbolizes the cosmos, time, and order, and is typical of 19th-century Historicism.

The bowl rests on a figural baluster foot featuring a mythological, winged creature, standing on a profiled round pedestal. The execution shows careful casting work with finely incised details and clearly defined reliefs.
