Description from the seller

Antique Russian icon as a 'multi-field icon' from the 19th century.

Hand-painted with egg tempera on a wooden panel with a gesso ground. Typical method of icon painting in 18th- and 19th-century Tsarist Russia.

In the center is depicted 'The Resurrection of Christ'. Top left is the 'Mother of God of Kazan', top right 'St. Nicholas the Wonderworker'. Bottom left is shown 'St. George the Dragon-Slayer' on a white horse.

This is an Old Believers icon. The painting is executed in fairly detailed work. Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shading. The painting contains very authentic craquelure. The icon was created around 1850–1880. Partial restorations are present.

The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of use (see photos). The icon is slightly curved. On the back, both cross staples are missing. The faces of God the Father and Christ are heavily damaged (see photos).

The icon and the saints are inscribed. The inscriptions are easily readable. All details are clearly visible in the photos. Photos are part of the description.

Dimensions: 30.5 x 25.5 x 2 cm
