Description from the seller
Philips Electronic 777 Direct Control – Vintage Direct Drive Turntable – circa 1977–1979
Offered is a fine Philips Electronic 777 Direct Control turntable, a characteristic model from the late 1970s.
This model belongs to the period when Philips produced high-quality direct-drive turntables with electronic speed control. The combination of the clean industrial design, the smoked acrylic dust cover, and the fully electronic control panel gives this player a distinctly 1970s look.
Build year / Period
The Philips 777 Direct Control was produced around 1977–1979.
This was a time when direct-drive technology was on the rise and manufacturers were moving from belt-drive to electronically controlled motors for steadier rotation speed and reduced maintenance.
Technical features
Direct Drive drive
Electronic speed control
33 & 45 RPM
Automatic functions (start/stop)
Pitch control
S-shaped tonearm
Dust cover present
Made in Europe
Condition
Very neat cosmetic condition
Dust cover intact (may show light signs of use consistent with age)
Control elements original
Turntable and arm look well cared for
Condition as shown in the photos.
Rarity and collector value
The Philips 777 is not a mass-market entry model, but a solidly built direct-drive model from a technically interesting transitional period.
Well-preserved examples in this condition are offered less and less, especially with an intact dust cover. For fans of European vintage hi-fi and collectors of Philips turntables this is an attractive model.
The design is typical late-70s industrial minimalism and fits perfectly in a vintage hi-fi setup.
From a personal collection
This item comes from my personal collection. I have been carefully assembling selected audio equipment for years and choose my pieces for technical quality, design and condition. This turntable has always been neatly treated and kept. It is special to pass this model on to a new enthusiast.
All items are carefully packaged.
