132 items comprising a collection of Japanese postal entires dating from the Taisho era around 1921 to 1925, with stamps affixed, predominantly blue 1½ sen Taisho stamps bearing the chrysanthemum crest, clear postmarks and some military mail, in fair condition with aging and small cuts or worn corners.
Description from the seller
Item Description
This is a remarkable collection of approximately 130 Japanese postal "entires" — postcards and letters with stamps still affixed — dating from around Taisho 10 (1921) and the surrounding years. The term "entire" in philatelic terminology refers to a complete postal item, including its original envelope or card, as it passed through the postal system, complete with stamp and cancellation.
The collection features predominantly blue stamps from the Imperial Japanese postal era, including what appear to be 1½ sen Taisho-period definitive stamps bearing the iconic chrysanthemum and imperial crest design (大日本帝国郵便). Many pieces display clear circular date postmarks from various regional post offices across Japan, making them valuable for postal history research. Several items appear to include military mail (軍事郵便・軍艦消印), adding further historical significance to the collection.
The handwritten addresses and messages are rendered in traditional brush calligraphy, offering an intimate glimpse into everyday life and correspondence during the Taisho era — a period of cultural liberalism and modernization in Japan. The variety of originating and destination addresses across different prefectures makes this a compelling document of early 20th-century Japanese society and communications infrastructure.
This collection is ideal for philatelic enthusiasts, historians of the Taisho period, or collectors of Japanese ephemera and postal history. The sheer volume of approximately 130 pieces offers a rich field for study, sorting, and display.
Shipping method — The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL or FedEx depending on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
