Description from the seller
Berning Robot II – Iconic 35mm camera from the 1930s
Offered: a special Berning Robot II, produced by Otto Berning & Co. (Düsseldorf, Germany) in the early 1930s.
The Robot II is known for its innovative spring-driven transport system. Instead of a traditional film advance lever, the shutter and film transport are powered by a winding mechanism. After winding, multiple shots can be taken in rapid succession—a revolutionary system for its time and highly valued by press photographers.
The camera uses 35mm film in the special Robot cassette system and produces characteristic 24x24 mm square frames. This allowed a more compact design and more photos per film roll.
The all-metal construction gives the camera a robust, industrial appearance. Many examples are equipped with high-quality lenses from Schneider or Zeiss (specification depends on the offered unit).
Details:
Year of manufacture: approx. early 1930s
Country of origin: Germany
Format: 24x24 mm on 35mm film
Spring-driven transport mechanism
Collectible and historically interesting model
The Berning Robot II is a beloved collectible among enthusiasts of early 35mm cameras and German precision engineering.
Condition: the transport mechanism works and the shutter also works; accuracy of timing has not been checked. The focus/zoom rotates smoothly and you can feel it click firmly at the set distance; other functions have not been tested. No guarantee can be made regarding non-operation or poor operation due to the device’s age.
