Stunning elephant sculpture carved entirely by hand by a renowned Murano glass master from the Tagliapietra family, using the calcedony glass technique. Its distinctive colors come from the calcedony method; the coloring effect is achieved by adding to the molten glass a mixture based on various metallic oxides, and the results are astonishing.
This particular technique was invented in Venice in the late 15th century but only became famous much later.
Calcedony glass is a special type of decorative glass obtained by blending metals of different colors, mostly green and purple, to imitate semi-precious stones such as agate, calcedony, onyx, malachite, lapis lazuli, and jasper.
