Description from the seller
Savonarola foldable chair – Solid wood – Carved lion heads – Renaissance Revival – Italy/Spain – 20th century
Description
Elegant Savonarola foldable chair (also known as the Dante chair), crafted in solid wood and made in the Renaissance Revival style.
Dating to the mid-20th century, circa 1950.
The armrests terminate in finely carved lion heads with metal rings — a classic decorative motif borrowed from Italian Renaissance examples.
The upper portion is richly ornamented with scroll and leaf motifs.
The curved seat and underlying frame form the characteristic X-shaped folding structure. The chair folds smoothly and remains stable in use.
A decorative yet functional piece of furniture, suitable for:
• Classical interiors
• Mediterranean living styles
• Library or study
• Hall or as an accent chair
The wood has developed a warm, natural patina. Light signs of use appropriate to its age. Constructionally stable.
