West Asian gold blossom pendant, circa 1st Millennium BC, measuring 9 mm by 4 mm and weighing 0.24 g, in good condition and previously acquired in 2025 from a private collection in Japan via a gallery Händler in the United Kingdom.
Description from the seller
A West Asian golden flower pendant with fine granulation. The pendant resembles a flower, with four elongated, hollow-oval, petal-like elements that project from a ring of granules above. On the top of the pendant there is a bail. Some signs of wear appropriate to the age of the piece, including slight deformities of the petals and holes at the base as well as scratches, dents and earthy deposits on the surface.
Many great civilizations inhabited West Asia in antiquity, and their wealth and prosperity are reflected in the highly sophisticated processing of precious metal jewelry. Gold was beaten into a thin layer and formed into various shapes. Gold and silver jewelry included golden granules, glass and gemstone inlays, and detailed engravings. Such pendants would have been part of elaborate necklaces or bracelets. Jewelry played an important role in many West Asian civilizations. Golden necklaces, rings, earrings, and bracelets would have been worn in everyday life, but could also be buried with the deceased.
Measurements: L 0.9 cm x W 0.4 cm
Weight: 0.24 g
Origin: From a Japanese private collection, deceased, 1970–2010.
