From about 1870, in Pforzheim doublé rolled sheets were produced according to a new process, resulting in a collaboration of the largest doublé jewelry producers such as Rodi & Wienerberger, Speidel, Andreas Daub and A. Odenwald.
From 1890-1900 these large companies began to specialize in the new method for making jewelry with “rolled” or rolled gold (Doublé), and their name thus became internationally established.
On a doubly pressed tombac sheet, a layer of silver was first cast, then two thin layers of gold were rolled on, after which the sheets were taken to ateliers for crafting jewelry.
After the jewelry was made it was carefully polished with a guarantee of lifelong gold shine, as evidenced by this pocket watch chain with clasp!
The typically long doublé chains were used to hang pocket watches, but ladies also cleverly used them by hanging these chains with clasps around their necks.
Among the less well-off, who could not afford noble-metal jewelry, these chains were a solution and very popular!
Antique doublé jewelry is now found only sporadically and is highly collectible!
Photos are enlarged; for the specific dimensions please check the specifications.
The chain with clasp is lightly cleaned for shipping and sent in a Gift-Box, registered and insured with Track and Trace.
Any incidental costs are for the buyer.
