Description from the seller

The Bakongo fetishes, called nkisi (plural: minkisi), are small wooden statues intended to welcome protective spirits, often ancestors. The best known is the nkisi nkondi, nicknamed the “nail fetish,” whose body is inlaid with nails, pieces of glass or metal; each insertion represents a request or oath that the spirit must honor.
These objects are used in healing, justice, or village-protection rituals; the nganga (priest-healer) “charges” them by pouring sacred substances on them and reciting prayers. Beyond their magical function, the nkisi embody the Bakongo vision of a world where the visible and the invisible intertwine, making each fetish a unique spiritual work of art.
