Classic Mechelen Chair – Henri II Style – Oak Wood with Cane Seating
For auction: a stunning antique dining chair in the characteristic Mechelen style (also known as Henri II or Neo-Renaissance), dating from the late 19th century.
This chair is made of solid oak and is richly decorated with refined woodcarving.
The backrest is a paragon of craftsmanship, featuring a gracefully carved crest and a series of elegant baluster spindles.
The seat is finished in classic cane (handwoven rush/webbing), which provides a light and airy appearance that perfectly contrasts with the rugged oak wood.
The chair stands on sturdy, turned front legs connected by an H-shaped stretcher for extra stability.
