Statue, Abstractie in Geborgenheid - 16.5 cm - Stone

This object is a characteristic example of post-war modernist sculpture. The work can be characterized as abstracted figuration, in which the human form has been reduced to its monumental essence. The composition emphasizes the inner interconnectedness between the figures, trapped within a closed, almost architectural contour.

The formal language shows a strong kinship with the work of the Laren-based artist from the 1960s (think of influences from artists such as Han Wezelaar or Charlotte van Pallandt). It is a restrained cabinet piece in which the tension between the massive volumes and the emotional tenderness of the subject "geborgenheid" is beautifully balanced.
