Description from the seller
Pair of large Baroque candelabras (79 cm), polychromed and gilded wood, Southern Europe, 18th century.
Professionally shipped – more than 900 five-star reviews worldwide.
Monumental pair of wooden candelabras, built from a profiled base with claw feet and floral motifs, a baluster-shaped shaft with carved foliage decoration, and a wide candle dish with an iron pin. The form and proportions align with the Baroque tradition of Southern European ecclesiastical and ceremonial furniture. The absence of explicit iconographic symbols points to a decorative function within a religious or representative context, such as use in a chapel, church interior, or confraternity. The polychromy and gilding are mainly applied on the visible side; the rear is more understated, suggesting placement against a wall or architectural element.
Height 79 cm including the finial and 73 cm without the finial; the condition shows age-related wear, cracking in the wood, lacunae in the polychromy, and damage to the carved foliage motifs, present on both candelabras, as well as signs of woodworm.
Please carefully view the photos, they are part of the description.
