Description from the seller

Circa 1900, 22x27 cm.
"Jewish merchant", a very beautiful portrait by Eugène Michel (late 19th/early 20th century).
Superb gelatin-silver print, in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), and a very fine preservation of contrasts, grayscale nuances and levels of detail.
Labeled in the negative and signed by a wet stamp on the back.

Eugène Michel was active in North Africa at the end of the 19th century and in the early 20th, where he worked both as photographer and publisher. His photographs mix urban views, landscapes, and portraits called "types", with particular attention to light contrasts and architectural textures. At the crossroads of documentary and commercial publishing, his work participates in the construction of a visual imaginary of the Maghreb intended for European audiences.

Deserves to be framed.
Small PR conservatory, not to be missed.

Will be shipped with its sleeve and its cardboard support on neutral pH (ideal for a collection in good condition).
