Description from the seller

Circa 1870/80, 21x27 cm.
"Transport de femme, Le Caire", a very beautiful portrait of a woman on her donkey (with her escort), by Pascal Sebah (late 19th century).
Superb albumen print of the period colorized by watercolor (in progress at Sebah, following the Japanese practices, but much rarer and less precise), in very good condition (a few creases and foxing on the reverse without gravity), free (not mounted, rare), and with excellent preservation of contrast, gray scale tones and levels of detail.

Pascal (P.) Sebah was one of the leading photographers active in Constantinople in the second half of the 19th century. His studio, located in the heart of the city, quickly became a reference for travelers and diplomats seeking images of the Ottoman Empire and of Egypt.
Sebah produced portraits, scenes of “types” and monumental views with great technical mastery and meticulous staging.

Deserves framing.
Small PR conservatoire, not to be missed.

Will be shipped with its wallet and its cardboard support on neutral pH (ideal for a collection in good condition).
